About Spartanburg Shares

Our Mission:

To lend durable medical equipment, free of charge, to any resident of Spartanburg County for up to 90 days.

Our inventory is comprised of gently-used donated equipment for the express purpose of "paying it forward." There is no income threshold or insurance requirement associated with our equipment loans, just a picture ID proving residence in Spartanburg County.

Welcome to our New Volunteer Coordinator

We want to welcome Evan Carr as our new volunteer coordinator! He certainly is proven to have a 'servant's heart' and has been involved in several community organizations over the years. Currently, Evan serves on committees for Spartanburg Young Professionals, 1 Million Cups (an affiliate of the Kaufmann Foundation), and the annual Pique young professionals event with Ten at the Top. He has also served as a Real Men Read volunteer with Jesse S. Bobo Elementary, as a board member for SYP and the South Carolina Association of Volunteer Administration, and as a volunteer for Partners for Active Living, EMERGE Family Therapy, United Way of the Piedmont, the Coalition for Active Youth fund for the Spartanburg County Foundation, OneSpartanburg, Mobile Meals, SC Thrive, Friends of Croft State Park/SAMBA, and the Freewheelers of Spartanburg. He has been actively involved in the new Doxa Church on the Westside of Spartanburg near Upward Star Center since April 2019.

Evan enjoys being outdoors, whether going bicycle riding, hiking, or kayaking, trying to better himself at disc golf, swimming, or playing pick-up games of basketball, volleyball, or any racquet sport. He also enjoys cooking (ask him about his home fries), football (particularly the Clemson Tigers and Carolina Panthers), visiting new restaurants and coffee shops, watching new (or new-to-him) movies, taking random road trips, listening to different kinds of music, playing guitar, and photography. He runs a graphic/web design and social media content management business.

Serving Since 2012

Modeled on similar outreach efforts across the country, Spartanburg Shares opened its doors to the community on October 13, 2012. In October 2011, an organizational board began meeting to establish a working model and enlist community stakeholders. Since then, several critical local agencies and organizations have pledged their support. The closet is located in space generously donated by the Episcopal Church of the Advent. The Advent Outreach Center is located at 137 S. Dean Street in downtown Spartanburg. Our loan closet is the only one of its kind in the Upstate and in South Carolina, and one of three in both Carolinas.
